Officer Roles

Club Officers

Your club must have at least three officers. Club officers must be current LUSU members and cannot hold any other paid position within LUSU. Three traditional roles officers play are that of president, treasurer, and secretary. If you choose to use the model constitution, these roles will be predefined for you and you have to do nothing further.

President: The president is your club’s chief executive and primary decision maker. They set the direction of the club and are ultimately responsible for running its operations.

Treasurer: The treasurer is your club’s financial officer, who is in charge of the money flowing in and out of your club. They are also typically in charge of helping your club’s budget, its events and raising money to fund your activities.

Secretary: The secretary is your club’s record keeper. Because a club is an official (albeit relatively informal) organisation, it needs to keep records of its activities. The secretary is in charge of chronicling all of what your club does, as well as keeping minutes at official club meetings.

Expectations for Club officers

  • Complete Clubs Training
  • Operate in alignment with the LUSU Clubs website.
  • Do not sign any agreements on behalf of Lakehead University or LUSU.
  • Do not engage in or promote unsanctioned alcohol-related activities (e.g., pub crawls).
  • Foster a respectful and inclusive club environment for all members.
Why Club Roles Matter
  • Defined roles help clubs:
    • Provide leadership & direction.
    • Stay organized & efficient.
    • Manage finances responsibly.
    • Communicate clearly.
    • Encourage member engagement.
  • Every role contributes to the success of the club. No position is more important than another, so choose a role that excites you and matches your interests.

Updating your Officers

Before assigning an Officer role to a new officer, make sure the Officer has joined your club.

IMPORTANT! Once an Officer role is removed, that person will no longer have access to the Club’s Officer Tools. If you are removing yourself as an Officer, make sure all other Officer roles have been updated before removing your own role.

  1.  Log in to clubsden.lusu.ca
  2. Open your Club’s Organization Tools and select Roster.
  3. Search for the new Officer’s name and select the Edit icon.
  4. Select the appropriate Officer role and click Save.
  5. To remove the previous Officer, search for their name and select the Edit icon.
  6. Remove their Officer role and click Save.
  7. Repeat these steps for each Officer position that needs to be updated.
